Hey guys. Sorry if anyone is offended by the term "religion" I'm only using that as a general term for a multitude of all faiths such as Christians, Muslims, Hindu's and Sikhs. This thread is to DISCUSS topics about Religion and faiths.

Rules for this thread.

NO Faith bashing (even if we have strong opinions against something. Please don't use mindless insults. Were metal fans not yobbish chavs) everyone is here to have a civilised discussion. This will lead you to an immediate ban.

Please respect the main rules of the forum, no pornography and otherwise offensive content. Etc, etc.

True, Scientology has the really upsetting side that it doesn't acknowledge that Autism exists. Which I feel is really sad as my brother has it and it obviously is real and Jedi is just a mish mash of eastern philosophy mixed in with the idea of the Jedi and lightsabers.

I do not believe in any particular religion, nor do I rule out the possibilty of there being one true religion/god ....
I have my own personal values and ideals that I adhear to without the need for an all powerful deity to send down judgement on me when I stray or to comfort me when things are to much ... I do not need the idea of a 'god' to get me through each day like a lot of people seem to but saying that i would accept the remote possibilty of there have once being a creator.
Being a scientist, I have studied patterns of evolution and origins of lifeforms ... and even though the evidence science provides is compelling ... it seems that maybe there may have been an original catalyst or 'god' to just push that first domino, and kick start evolutionary history as we know it.

... anyways there are my vague thoughts on religion lol

p.s. and Jedi is a bit of a joke religion really isnt it, is it even recognised as a real religion?? (sorry if that is offensive, none intended)

Nope not offensive in the slightest!

It was a thing that people made a group on Facebook for that got put onto the census.
Next year they are trying for Heavy Metal to be put on it.

I am divided as to put Metal or Christian.

But the metal part of me shall prevail. Haha.

Yeah, according to the 2001 census there are actually more Jedis in England than there are Buddhists or Sikhs, I think statistically it's the fourth largest religion in England from those figures!

And yeah, I think we may have discussed religion at Bloodstock, although my memory's pretty hazy of that evening (is there an "alcoholism" box on the census form? ) but yeah you know where I stand, I'm agnostic, open to the possibility of there being some sort of "god" but don't think any religion has the answer as to who or what he/she/it is, any god out there is much bigger than anything mankind has come up with.

I actually used to be Christian when I was younger and do actually respect Christianity to a point, at least the stuff that Jesus was teaching was good and had a positive message, okay I don't believe he was the son of God but I respect what he was trying to do, and I respect those religious people that try and apply that message to their lives and who are genuinely good people. I think the Christian church over the centuries has become corrupt and far removed from what Jesus had in mind though, and with all the money and power the church has amassed it could do so much good in the world but far more often has had a negative and frequently incredibly destructive influence. Tbh if the church put as much effort into tackling poverty, war, famine and other genuine social evils as it does into fighting homosexuality, abortion and contraception the world would be a far better place.

So yeah, that's my two cents, lol, I have no beef with God, if he exists, or with Jesus, but the church, with it's human leaders and human founders I have little time for, and I'll go out on a limb and say I'd bet Jesus would probably agree with me on that!

Of course there is only one true faith anyway, and it is of course METAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!

I totally agree with you saying that Jesus would agree with you. The leaders of all the faiths give those faiths a bad name and then everybody else assumes that every person of that so called faith or belief is like that.

But it seems the otherway round for fundementalistic islam though. But that doesn't bother me.
